Welcome to my workshop. I have been carving for over 15 years and hope you enjoy looking around and meeting some of my little friends. It seems natural to carve Santa Clauses when you live in Christmas Lake Village in Santa Claus, Indiana. After all, it’s Christmas all year long there. Grandmacarver and I retired to the rolling hills of Santa Claus, IN a few years ago, and that's where I came to love carving my Santa friends. Even though we've moved on now (to be closer to the little shavers...see below) I still love to carve Santas and enjoy helping them find new homes.
I carve in a very traditional style and apply a special “old-world” finish to my Santas. I’m too old-fashioned to use power tools, so all of my friends are created using my favorite carving knives and gouges. Every morning I wake up with a new idea. This becomes the theme of the day. It might be a new item to hold, more detail on the robe, a different color for the coat, or a fuller, fluffier beard. No two Santas should look the same. That would take the fun out of carving. My grandchildren love to play “What’s different about Grandpa’s new Santa?”
